The Kachina Doll is a popular symbol that represents the kachina dancer, who in turn represents one of many elements of the Hopi religion. These kachinas represent hundreds of different concepts, important animals, and objects such as food and weather. The Sunface is a fun and positive kachina. He represents warmth, shelter for the elderly, a bright future and playfulness for the young. The Navajo of the southwest began to make kachina dolls and added their own embellishments, though the dolls do not have the religious significance of the Hopi originals. Nonetheless, Navajo Kachina Dolls are beautiful works of art and teaching tools that represent an important part of our culture.
